Birthdays and back to school

A couple of weeks ago Ashten turned seven. I thought I wouldn't have any issues about her age this year until my dad told her that she's half way to fourteen. Now that I have issues with!
For her birthday she has been telling me for months that she wanted to go bowling. I hate the bowling alley. It just radiates germs. I tried and tried but she wouldn't be talked out of it, so we loaded up all her friends and were off. They all had such a fun time. No one really cared about the score and each of the girls helped each other out. It turned out to be a really fun time.
Ashten is such a good girl and she will always help me out with her little brother. I love spending time with her, especially when it's just the two of us. Once in a while we will go on "girls dates" and her favorite thing to do is get pedicures. I love that I have a little girl to do fun things with.Ashten left for her first day of school today. She was really excited for 2nd grade. She has a really fun teacher and a lot of friends and neighbors in her class. It should be a great year for her. It's a little bit quieter at our house now that school started. For the next three weeks each of my kids will be starting school. Ashten today, Treyson next Monday, and Traxton the following Monday. It will be really strange that in three weeks, all of my kids will be gone four days a week for two hours. I am having an inner battle with my feelings of both anxiety and excitement for the alone time. I'm nervous to send Traxton to preschool on the school bus, but I'm also making lists of the projects I could get done in that time. We'll see how it all ends up.

Running in Bryce

I went to Bryce Canyon this weekend with Jared, my sister, and aunt to run another 5k. We had a lot of fun staying together in a hotel. We woke up early for the race and when we went out to the car, we found that I had left the room key in our door. Yikes, I'm really glad there weren't any murderers on the lose up there.

So excited for the race to start.

It was pretty cold when the race started. I actually don't think I warmed up until it was over. Although, it was nice to not be dripping in sweat like I am when we run here. I felt really good both during and after the race. I was also really excited to beat my last time by three minutes. I ended up getting 3rd in my age division with a time of 29:34

Coming down the home stretch.

3 years old!

I am a little behind in my blogging, but my baby turned three a couple of weeks ago. I know I shouldn't call him my baby anymore, since my older kids were not even the youngest child by his age, but I think he will always be my baby. It is crazy to think that he is already three. He has been through so much in his little life and he has made so much improvement that I am amazed everyday. During the first part of June I took him up north to do more hearing tests and he did so well. He was hearing at a "normal" range for all of the frequencies. It was the best so far. Once we got home, I pulled out his old audiograms and compared them to the new one and just cried. The results were not even close. His hearing has improved drastically. I have never doubted our decision to have the cochlear implant surgery, but seeing his latest audiogram just reaffirmed how right of a decision it was.His speech and language has also taken off. He consistently talks in 3-4 word sentences and more than just his immediate family are able to understand him. I also feel like his comprehension has improved. I can tell him to do something from across the street or upstairs and he understands me. This is something pretty remarkable because it means he is getting all of his information auditory instead of using visual cues like signs or lip reading.

Traxton is such a sweet little boy and I am so grateful that he still loves to snuggle with me whenever I ask. He also is quite goofy and loves to play and wrestle with Treyson. It won't be long until he can give Treyson a run for his money. I love this little guy so much and am so thankful to be his momma.
